BUFFALO, NY—Kara Goodwin (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) finished with three goals and an assist to lead Buffalo State (1-15/1-8) to a 4-2 win over Cortland (2-11-2/1-7-1) in an ECAC West game at the Ice Arena this afternoon.
The win is the first for Buffalo State first-year head coach Candice Moxley.
Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/W. Seneca West) netted the first Bengals’ goal at 6:07 of the first period, off a pass from Goodwin. Goodwin scored her first of the game midway through the period and Buffalo State took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Buffalo State extended its lead to 4-1, as Goodwin scored a pair of goals in the second at 9:42 and 13:41. Cortland recorded a power play early in the third to cut the deficit, but would not get any closer.
Melissa Ash (Binghamton, NY/Chenanga Valley) chipped in a pair of assists and Jeyna Minnick (Rochester, NY/Greece-Arcadia) added a helper.
Cortland outshot the Bengals, 30-19, and was 1 for 6 with the extra skater, while Buffalo State was 0 for 2. Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, CO/Widefield) had 28 saves between the pipes for the Bengals.
Buffalo State will host Cortland again tomorrow at 4 p.m.
