The Buffalo Regals of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League are excited to announce the hiring of Jamie Bird as their new head coach for the 2018-19 season. Bird will be succeeding Head Coach Jay Maciejewski who helped stabilize the program after a tumultuous 2015-16 season following a two year hiatus from the league.
Buffalo Regals General Manager John Evoy stated “although we took great strides this past season we believe that we have a long way to go and feel that Jamie will bring the type of leadership to the program that can help propel us forward. He has both played and coached at a high level; and has numerous contacts throughout North America which will only help in attracting and promoting players.”
Coach Bird has a long and impressive playing career, having played in the QMJHL, CHL, ECHL, UHL and the AHL. He has coached at the Tier I Elite league level where his team won the NYS Championship and was a quarterfinal finalist in the National Championships. Bird has also coached at the Prep School Level and in the ACHA for the University of Rochester. Over the years Coach Bird has help advance dozens of players to Division I & III NCAA playing careers.
The Regals will make additional announcements shortly in regards to other members of the coaching and operations staff that are sure to further advance the program and provide the type of environment that will be beneficial and exciting for the players, fans and community.
