NORTHFIELD, Vt.—Buffalo State (4-7-2) had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 4-1 loss in the championship game of the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament against host No. 2-ranked Norwich (11-0-1).
After a scoreless first period, the Cadets opened the scoring early in the second frame when a power-play point shot found its way to the back of the net. Norwich pushed its lead to 2-0 just over five minutes later, but Buffalo State cut the deficit in half with a power-player marker of its own later in the period off the stick of Jake Rosen (E. Amherst, NY/Williamsville North). Brett Hope (Blenheim, ON/Blenheim) and Sean Hrivnak (Laval, QC/College Laval) drew the assists.
Norwich reclaimed the two-goal lead with a shorthanded tally just 1:11 later, however, and then added an empty netter with 4:21 remaining in the third period to complete the scoring.
The Cadets outshot the Bengals 30-17. Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/JFK) finished with 26 saves in the loss and was named to the All-Tournament team. Rosen was also on the All-Tournament team. Both teams finished 1 for 3 on the power play.
Norwich has allowed just 12 goals in 12 games this season and has allowed more than one goal twice.
Buffalo State will travel to Elmira for another non-conference game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
