The newest ice hockey team in Buffalo is calling Cornerstone Arena in Lockport home. The Buffalo Stampede opened against the Lake Erie Big Horns on Saturday evening in United States Premier Hockey League competiton.
The game was filled with excitement as it ended in a 3-3 tie, a 5-minute scoreless overtime and a five-round shootout, with Lake Erie coming away with a 4-3 victory. The night before the Stampede beat the Big Horns 6-5 in overtime.
Scoring for the Stampede were Parker Bonsignore, Caden Cranston and Joe LoBrutto.
Coaching the Stampede is Jason Bonsignore, the fourth overall draftee in 1994 who played for the Tampa Bay Lightning; Ana Orzechowski, an alum of Kenmore/Grand Island of the WNYGVIHL, RPI and one year with the Buffalo Beauts of the NWHL; Cory Mickey who played for Southern New Hampshire University and with the NEHL.
