Buffalo State Men’s Hockey Falls at Potsdam, 5-2

POTSDAM, NY—Potsdam (3-2-1/2-2-1) scored three third-period goals and claimed a 5-2 victory over visiting Buffalo State (1-3-2/1-3-2) in a SUNYAC contest tonight at Maxcy Ice Arena.

 
Potsdam’s Dan McCarney scored his first of a pair for the lone goal of the opening period, and then Tommy Telesca gave the Bears a 2-0 advantage less than four minutes into the second period.  Scott Roy (Rockland, ON/ESC L’Escale) scored his first of the season with assists from Ryan Stayner (Youngstown, OH/Nichols) and Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, ON/Cardinal Carter) less than two minutes later.
 
The Bengals evened the score just 1:46 into the final period when freshmanJason Zaleski (Scranton, PA/Scranton) lit the lamp with assists from Cory Gurski (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Nick Schiro (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield).  The Bears responded with a pair of quick goals by McCarney and Jake Rivera, before adding a late empty-netter by Kenny Simon o seal the win. 
 
Freshman Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/JFK) finished with 44 saves in his first collegiate start for Buffalo State.  Potsdam outshot Buffalo State 49-39 for the game, including 21-10 in the middle frame.   The Bengals finished 0 for 3 on the power play, and Potsdam was 0 for 2 in a clean contest.
 
Buffalo State will visit Fredonia for seventh-consecutive SUNYAC game to open the season next Friday at 7 p.m.
