Buffalo State Men’s Hockey Erases Three-Goal Deficit, Ties Morrisville, 4-4

BUFFALO, NY— Brett Hope (Blenheim, ON/Blenheim) had two goals and an assist, and Jake Rosen (E. Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) scored with 17 seconds remaining in regulation to help Buffalo State (1-1-1/1-1-1) erase a three-goal deficit and earn a 4-4 tie against visiting Morrisville State (0-2-1/0-2-1) in  SUNYAC game tonight at the Ice Arena.

John Doyle opened the scoring for Morrisville with the only marker of the first period on a deflection from a point shot.

Anthony Beaumont’s (Lester, PA/Interboro) third goal of the young season on the power play early in the second evened the score at 1-1, but the fireworks were just beginning.  Morrisville exploded for three goals in a span of just over five minutes, with two coming off the stick of Joe Santino and the other by Steve Dol to give the Mustangs a 4-1 lead late in the second period.  Hope scored his first of the game on a deflection with just 28 seconds remaining in the second to give the Bengals life heading into the final frame.

Hope pulled the Bengals within one early in the third stanza when he squeezed a shot from a bad angle under the arm of the Morrisville netminder and into the back of the net.  Then Rosen finally evened the score in the closing seconds banging home a rebound in front.

Neither team generated much of a threat in the five-minute overtime.

Ryan Salkeld (Virginia Beach, VA/Churchland), Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, ON/Cardinal Carter), Zachary Stein (Enfield, CT/National Sports Academy), Sean Hrivnak (Laval, QC/College Laval), Nick Berst (Depew, NY/Lancaster), and Nick Melligan (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) all picked up assists for Buffalo State.

Morrisville finished with a 41-31 advantage in shots, as Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling, NY/Pawling) made 37 saves for Buffalo State.  The Bengals finished 1 for 5 on the power play, and the Mustangs were 0 for 6.
