BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State scored three goals in a span of less than two minutes early in the second period en route to a 4-1 victory over visiting Salem State tonight a non-conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Erin Gehen (West Seneca, NY/W. Seneca West) scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead Buffalo State.
Missy Mallon (Amherst, NY/Amherst) added a goal and an assist, and Maddie Toczek (N. Tonawanda/Starpoint) also scored.
Emma Ruggiero (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) chipped in a pair of assists.
Buffalo State controlled play from the opening faceoff, but only held a 1-0 lead on Gehen’s first of the night after 20 minutes, despite outshooting the Vikings, 14-4.
The Bengals pulled away early in the second period, however, as Mallon and Toczek scored just eight seconds apart in the early going.
Gehen netted her second of the game and team-leading 14th of the season just 1:44 later to push the Bengals’ advantage to 4-0.
Salem State scored its lone goal just 3:47 into the third period when a point shot ricocheted off a Viking player’s leg and past Sarah Quigley (Canton, MA/National Sports Academy).
Buffalo State finished with a 40-12 advantage in shots.
Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) stopped all nine shots she faced in the first two periods, before Quigley finished with two saves in the third period in relief.
FOR THE FOES
Danielle Kelley scored the Vikings’ goal with assists from Kelsey Russell and Madison Kingston.
Jenn Toussaint finished with 36 stops between the pipes.
NOTEWORTHY
Buffalo State tied a school record with its 11th victory of the season, matching the mark set in 2000-01.
