Buffalo State Upends Geneseo In OT To Clinch Playoff Berth

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Jake Rosen (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) scored a power-play goal just 1:37 into overtime to lift Buffalo State to a 3-2 victory over visiting No. 11 Geneseo in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena. The win secured a sixth-consecutive playoff berth for the Bengals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) and Cory Gurski (Hilton, NY/Hilton) also scored for Buffalo State, and Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, ON/Cardinal Carter) had a pair of assists.
After a scoreless first period, Geneseo capitalized on a defensive zone turnover by the Bengals and took a 1-0 lead just 1:51 into the middle frame.
Buffalo State evened the score with Wood’s sixth of the year on the power-play later in the period, and then took the lead just over five minutes later on Gurski’s fifth of the year.
Geneseo again converted on a Bengals’ defensive turnover to produce the only goal of the third period early in the stanza to force overtime.
Rosen forced home a rebound just 1:37 into the extra session and just 13 seconds into the power play with assists from Jonathan Hall (Greenfield, IN/Connections Academy) and Pryce.
The Bengals finished with a 31-28 edge in shots as Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling, NY/Pawling) made 26 saves in the win.
Buffalo State was 2 for 6 on the power play and the Knights were 0 for 3.

FOR THE FOES
Zach Lynes opened the scoring for Geneseo, and Stephen Collins netted his 18th goal of the season in the third period.
Matt Leon made 28 saves in the loss.

NOTEWORTHY
Buffalo State completed the season sweep of the Knights with the win. The Bengals won in Geneseo by a 7-4 count earlier this season.
Gurski has scored a goal in three-straight games and has four goals in the past five games.
