GENEVA, N.Y.— A goal in each period proved to be enough for Buffalo State to record its fifth straight win as the Bengals defeated William Smith in a conference matchup on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Missy Mallon (Amherst/Amherst) opened up scoring in the game, putting the Bengals ahead 1-0 midway through the first period.
In the second period, Brooke Krantz (Penticton, BC/Penticton) tallied the eventual game-winner with a goal off a pass from Christine Harris (Mountain Top, PA/Wyoming Seminary) at 11:53.
Buffalo State’s third and final goal came in the last period when Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo/W. Seneca West) took advantage of a Bengal power play and scored with just over nine minutes left in the game.
William Smith managed to get on the scoreboard in the closing minutes of play with a goal at 17:45.
The Bengals held a 42-24 advantage in total shots and finished 1 for 8 on the power play.
Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) earned the win in net, making 23 saves in 59:54.
FOR THE FOES
Rebecca Begley was the Herons lone score, while Hedi Droste and Maura Mulligan were credited with assists.
Laurel Brown recorded the loss in net, making 39 saves in 57:41.
