Buffalo State Women’s Hockey Makes History With Win Over Cortland

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Missy Mallon (Amherst/Amherst) netted the game-winner for Buffalo State in a 2-1 conference victory against Cortland on Friday afternoon, helping the Bengals clinch a home playoff game for the first time in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cortland struck first with a goal midway through the first period.
Erin Gehen (West Seneca/West Seneca West), however, turned right around on the next faceoff and tied the game up with an unassisted goal just six seconds later.
At 9:41 in the second period, Mallon tallied the game-winner with assists from Brooke Krantz (Penticton, BC/Penticton) and Megan Reukauf (Depew/Lancaster).
Neither team could find the back of the net in the third period.
The Red Dragons nearly tied the game up with four minutes to play, but Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) made a diving save to keep the Bengals ahead.
Buffalo State finished the game with a 37-26 advantage in shots, including 20-10 advantage in the second period.
Silva earned the win in net, finishing with 25 saves.
Both teams finished 0 for 4 on the power play.

FOR THE FOES
Sydney Carlucci tallied the lone goal for Cortland. Josie Fletcher and Madison Fischl were credited with assists.
In goal, Deanna Meunier recorded the loss. She made 35 saves, including 19 in the second period.

Buffalo State will return to action at home tomorrow for a 2 p.m. rematch against Cortland.
