BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (6-5-2) fell behind early, but erupted for four first-period goals and cruised to a 4-1 victory in a non-conference game against SUNY Canton (2-17-1) tonight at the Ice Arena.
Playing in their first game in 41 days, the Bengals got off to a slow start, falling behind 1-0 just 24 seconds into the contest. Buffalo State recovered quickly, however, tying the score on a deflection by Bri Carroll (Peoria, AZ/AZ Virtual Academy) just under three minutes later. Kara Goodwin (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) added a pair of quick goals, before Erin Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) added her fifth of the season on a rebound to push Buffalo State’s lead to 4-1 before the first intermission.
Neither team would score the rest of the way, as Buffalo State finished with a 37-17 advantage in shots. Buffalo State finished 0 for 5 on the power play, while the Kangaroos were 0 for 6. Freshman Justine Silva (El Monte, CA/Arroyo) finished with 16 saves between the pipes for the Bengals.
Goodwin’s two goals gave her 33 for her career as a Bengal, moving her into a three-way tie for second in school history.
Buffalo State will host the Kangaroos again tomorrow at 3 p.m.
