Buffalo State’s Gawronski named NEWHL Co-Goalie of the Year; Ruggiero earns second team All-Conference honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y.–The Northeast Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL) announced its All-Conference teams today and Buffalo State goalie Bri Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Mt. Mercy) was named first team while claiming Co-Goalie of the Year honors, and teammate Emma Ruggiero (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) received second team distinction.
Gawronski, a sophomore individualized studies major, played every minute between the pipes for the Bengals this season. In 25 games, she led the league with 838 saves which is the second-highest single-season total in school history. She posted a .916 save percentage and had a 3.07 goals against average.
Ruggiero, a senior health and wellness major, tied for the team lead with 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points in 25 games played. She totaled two power-play goals and three shorthanded goals, and scored a team-best eight goals and 12 points in 16 league games. Ruggiero finished her four-year career tied for 10th in school history with 52 points (28 goals, 24 assists) in 100 games.
Buffalo State finished the season 7-16-2 overall and was 4-11-1 in NEWHL play.
