Buffalo State’s Erin Gehen (West Seneca/West Seneca West) and Cheyenne Matson (Wasilla, AK/Matsu Career & Tech) were named to the inaugural Northeast Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL) All-Conference second team.
Gehen, a senior business major, led the Bengals and was ninth in the NEWHL with 18 points, including 12 goals which ranks fourth in the conference. She was also a two-time all-conference honoree in the ECAC West, earning honorable mention as a sophomore and second team as a junior. Gehen finished her career as the Bengals’ all-time leading scorer with 95 points in 104 games including a school-record 54 goals and 41 assists.
Matson, a sophomore health and wellness major, helped anchor a Bengals’ defensive corps that allowed a team goals against average of just 2.14. Matson contributed at the other end of the ice as well with two goals and five assists for seven points which is tied for ninth among defensemen scoring in the league.
Buffalo State finished the season 13-11-2 overall and was second in the NEWHL with a 9-6-1 mark in league play. The Bengals made their fifth-consecutive postseason appearance, falling in the league’s semifinals.
