Freshman forward Alysha Burriss netted her first collegiate goal and junior goaltender Jenn Gilligan stopped 28 shots as the Orange (1-1-1) tied Northeastern (0-0-1) 1-1 on Friday night.

Burriss’ goal came with just 3:51 remaining and allowed the Orange to break through in a period where ‘Cuse would apply most of the pressure.
Freshman forward Emily Costales took a pass from junior Kaillie Goodnough across the blue line and into a pair of Northeastern defenders before leaving it for her line mate Burriss, who snapped off a wrister past Huskies’ goaltender Chloe Desjardins for the first goal of the game.
Northeastern got it back midway through the second period immediately following an Orange power play.
With ‘Cuse still trying to get its fifth skater back in the action, Kendall Coyne found the back of the net for the equalizer.
“We’re frustrated that we couldn’t put it away and win the game obviously, but there’s certainly some satisfaction in bouncing back and doing some good things and getting back on track,” said head coach Paul Flanagan.
Gilligan wouldn’t allow anything else past her, stopping 24 of her 28 shots in the final two periods and overtime, while Desjardins turned away 22 SU shots.
