Team captain of the Canisius College hockey team, Doug Jessey (Langdon, Alberta), signed a contract with the Indy Fuel of the ECHL, announced on Thursday.
The defender helped lead the top scoring defense in the program’s history during his senior campaign, anchoring a unit that allowed only 2.24 goals per game. The Griffs finished their season ranked 12th nationally in scoring defense (and first in Atlantic Hockey) and 11th in the country with an 87.2 percent penalty kill. Jessey also added 11 points, two goals and nine assists.
During his career, the senior captain totaled 46 points, 12 goals and 34 assists in 156 games. Jessey finished his tenure ranked fourth in program history for scoring among defenders with his 46 points and third among blueliners with his 34 assists. He also helped lead the Griffs to three-straight appearances to Atlantic Hockey Championship weekend for the first time in school history, including the program’s first title and NCAA Tournament appearance during the 2012-13 campaign.
Indy is the ECHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL and the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
Canisius ended the 2014-15 season with an 18-12-7 record and matched the program’s best Atlantic Hockey finish with a two seed for the conference tournament.
