Canisius senior forward Dylan McLaughlin has been named the Atlantic Hockey Association’s Team Travel USA Player of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.
McLaughlin becomes the second Golden Griffin to receive the weekly honor this season, joining junior Nick Hutchison, who was recognized following Canisius’ season-opening split at Holy Cross in October.
A native of Lancaster, N.Y., McLaughlin tallied three goals and an assist in guiding the Griffs to a split of its AHA series against visiting AIC last weekend.
The reigning AHA Player of the Year opened the series with a three-point effort as he tallied two goals, including the game winner, and added an assist in a 4-2 victory over the Yellow Jackets. He concluded the series by registering Canisius’ lone goal in a 6-1 setback in the weekend finale on Saturday.
Through seven games, McLaughlin leads the Griffs in both goals (5) and points (10). He begins the week ranked among the top 10 active players in career points (117/2nd), assists (73/4th) and goals (44/8th).
Canisius (3-4-0) returns to action Saturday when it completes its home-and-home series with ECAC Hockey foe Clarkson. Opening faceoff for the matchup between the Griffs and Golden Knights is set for 7:35 p.m. at KeyBank Rink at Harborcenter.
