Canisius forward Dylan McLaughlin has been named the Atlantic Hockey Conference’s Team Travel USA Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
The honor marks the second time this season that McLaughlin has been recognized. He was honored Nov. 14 following the Golden Griffins split of their league series at Mercyhurst.
A native of Lancaster, N.Y., McLaughlin tallied three goals and added an assist in leading Canisius to a sweep of No. 20 Niagara in a home-and-home series last weekend.
In the series opener, McLaughlin ignited the Griffs’ third-period comeback, netting the game-tying goal to spark Canisius to a 4-2 victory at Dwyer Arena.
The series finale saw McLaughlin record two goals, including the eventual game-winning marker, during a five-goal first period and added an assist in the second to propel Canisius to an 8-2 victory.
McLaughlin has enjoyed an outstanding start to the 2017-18 season, as he leads the nation in points per game (1.67). McLaughlin has tallied a least one point in 14 of his 15 games played in 2017-18, including each of his last 11 contests.
No. 20 Canisius (10-5-1, 10-4-0 AHC) has begun its traditional end-of-semester break. The Griffs return to action Dec. 30 when they face No. 5 Cornell in a 4 p.m. contest at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, N.Y.
