Canisius College hockey standout Keegan Asmundson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) is one of 28 players invited to participate for the Buffalo Sabres during their Prospect Challenge, announced by the NHL team on Tuesday.
The recipient of the Atlantic Hockey Goaltending Trophy and a second-team all-conference selection during the 2014-15 campaign, Asmundson finished his collegiate tenure with four school records – career marks in goals against average (2.08) and save percentage (.930) and single-season records set last season in goals against average (1.96) and save percentage (.930).
Asmundson was especially strong down the stretch for the Griffs as a senior as he helped the team match the program’s top finish in Atlantic Hockey history. After January 9 last season, Asmundson posted an 11-3-1 record and led all goalies in the country with a 1.39 goals against average and .947 save percentage.
The Inver Grove Heights, Minn. native appeared in three games with South Carolina of the ECHL after finishing his collegiate career, posting a 2-1-0 record, 1.67 goals against average and .925 save percentage.
The Buffalo Sabres are hosting the Prospect Challenge at First Niagara Center and HARBORCENTER. The Sabres are set to square off with the Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils at the camp, which will take place from Sept. 11 to Sept. 14.
