CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON/St. Stephen’s Secondary) tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Canton women’s ice hockey team to a 3-1 win at Cortland Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 2-8-1 with the setback, while the Kangaroos improved to 2-16-1.

Junior Corey Temple (Troy, MI/Ohio Flames) netted Cortland’s goal with junior Niamh O’Connor (Paramus, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) and sophomore Makenzie Wright (Burlington, ON/New Jersey Rockets) earning assists. Junior Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) started in goal, making 12 saves through two periods before giving way to sophomore Kelly Farinella (Marlton, NJ/New Jersey Rockets), who stopped the three shots she faced in the third period.

Sophomore Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX/Madison Capitals) and freshman Lindsey Hall (Ancaster, ON/Hamilton Hawks) also scored goals for Canton. Sophomore Becca Kieffer (Lee Center/Lysander Lightning) and freshman Margret Troiano (Morristown/Potsdam Ice Storm) each recorded an assist. Freshman goalie Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON/St. Paul’s Catholic) registered 31 saves.

Temple gave Corrtland a 1-0 lead with her second goal of the season at 15:10 of the first period. DiNardo denied a shot by Wright from the point, but Temple was able to knock in the rebound after O’Connor kept the puck alive. Hall tied the game just 24 seconds before the end of the opening period, lifting a puck over Meunier from the left side of the slot.

Ardoin scored what proved to be the game-winner on the power play at 14:07 of the second period when her slap shot from the point barely slid through Meunier’s pads. The goal was her team-high seventh of the season. Near the end of the period, the Kangaroos killed off 43 seconds of a Cortland two-player advantage to keep the 2-1 lead.

The Red Dragons had three power-play opportunities in the third period but could not capitalize. With 53 seconds remaining, Cortland pulled Farinella for an extra skater but Carroll sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:47 after Canton won a faceoff inside its blue line.
