Canton Scores Last Minute Goal To Defeat Cortland, 3-2

CANTON, N.Y. – Tess Adams scored her third goal of the game with one minute, 18 seconds left in regulation to lead the Canton women’s ice hockey team to a 3-2 win versus Cortland in non-conference action Tuesday night. The Red Dragons dropped to 0-7 with the setback, while the Kangaroos improved to 6-4.

Freshman Olivia Monzel (Batavia, IL/Chicago Fury) netted both goals for Cortland. Senior Richelle Skarbowski (Orchard Park/Univ. of New England) and freshman Miranda Kolb (Watertown/Syracuse Nationals) each recorded an assist. Freshman goalie Rachael Farmer (Grand Island/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) registered 23 saves.

Rhea Coad picked up an assist for Canton. Goalie Brooke Susac made 20 saves.

After a scoreless first period, Adams gave the Kangaroos a 2-0 lead after two periods with goals at 10:08 and 19:17. The Red Dragons pulled even as Monzel scored at 10:09 of the third period and tallied a power-play goal less than two minutes later. Adams then scored the game winner at 18:42. Cortland pulled Farmer for an extra skater over the final 56 seconds but could not score the equalizer.
