After continuing his dominance in the postseason, senior netminder Tony Capobianco (Mississauga, Ontario) of the Canisius College hockey team collected Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Capobianco led the Griffs to a two-game sweep of Sacred Heart in the Atlantic Hockey First Round, stopping all 58 shots he saw in 3-0 and 5-0 victories. In Friday’s win in the opener, Capobianco recorded 27 saves and established new program standards in saves and shutouts before quickly adding to his records on Saturday with 31 stops.

Collecting the weekly honor for the sixth time in his career, Capobianco is now the program’s all-time leader with 2,870 career saves and eight career shutouts. He also currently holds the top marks in the school’s history with a .922 save percentage and 2.66 goals against average to go along with four single-season records set last season.

Capobianco has also saved his best for the postseason during his Golden Griffin tenure. In eight career Atlantic Hockey Tournament games, Capobianco owns a perfect 8-0-0 record to go along with a 1.50 goals against average and .961 save percentage. The senior, who has posted three of his school-record eight career shutouts during the playoffs, was named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Tournament Team last season after leading the Griffs to their first conference title, recording a tournament-record 235 saves.

In 25 games during his senior campaign, Capobianco owns a 2.73 goals against average, .916 save percentage and three shutouts.

Capobianco and the Griffs look to continue their success in the postseason in a best 2-of-3 series at second-seeded Bentley. The Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinal series is set to begin on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
