For the second time this season, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team suffered a one-goal loss as a result of a late power-play goal by the opponents. On Friday afternoon in Burlington, Vermont host University of Vermont rallied for a 3-2 victory over the third-ranked Golden Knights.

Clarkson, which lost its first game of the season, 4-3 in overtime to Colgate on October 27, stands at 10-2-1 overall. The Knights and Catamounts (5-6-1) of Hockey East close out their home-and-home, non-league series on Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. game at Cheel Arena.

Sophomore Michaela Pejzlova (Pardubice Czech Rep.), who centers Clarkson’s top line, tallied both of the Green and Gold’s goals to give Clarkson a 2-1 lead midway through the second period. Vermont, however, tied it up on Alyssa Gorecki’s second goal of the game late in the period to make it a 2-2 game through 40 minutes.

With just 68 seconds remaining in regulation the Catamounts connected on their sixth power-play opportunity of the day to skate away with the victory at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Taylor Willards scored the game-winner for the home team.

Vermont held a 1-0 lead on Gorecki’s tally at 8:20.

The Knights converted on two of their three man-advantage chances in the middle frame to grab the 2-1 lead. Pejzlova scored at 8:29 with freshman Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) and senior Savannah Harmon (Downers Grove, IL) assisting.

Just over three minutes later, Pejzlova scored again for her ninth goal of the season with junior Rhyen McGill (Whitby, ONT) and Giguere setting up the power-play tally.

Clarkson outshot Vermont 37-20. Senior Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) made 17 saves for the Knights while Sydney Scobee posted 35 stops for the Catamounts.

The Knights went 2-of-7 on the power play and Vermont went 1-of-6
