The first two months of the college hockey season has seen some outstanding new players emerge in ECAC Men’s and Women’s Hockey, but none have been better than Golden Knight freshmen, who for the second straight time gained the league’s Rookie of the Month honors.
Clarkson Men’s Hockey goaltender Jake Kielly and Golden Knights Women’s Hockey center Michaela Pejzlova were selected as ECAC Hockey Rookies of the Month for November.
Kielly posted the best winning percentage among league goaltenders for November at .833. He is unbeaten in his last six starts (4-0-2) after missing weekend action on November 4-5 with an illness. Kielly posted a .947 save percentage and a 1.62 goals against average for the month. He was twice named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week (11/14, 11/28) and was selected as Most Outstanding Player of the Shillelagh Tournament last weekend. He turned aside all 35 shots he faced against 11th-ranked Notre Dame in the tournament championship game (11/26) for his second career shutout, and was named NCAA Ice Hockey’s 1st Star of the Week (11/28) for his efforts. Kielly recorded three games with 30-or-more saves in November.
Clarkson freshman left wing Devin Brosseau was named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month for October.
A native of Pardubice, Czech Republic, Pejzlova was the top scoring league rookie and tied for second in the nation among freshmen for the month. She tallied 10 points on five goals and five assists. Pejzlova recorded at least one point in seven of eight games and was twice named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week (11/7, 11/15). She was also selected to Windjammer All-Tournament Team this past weekend at Vermont. Pejzlova was also voted ECAC Women’s Hockey Rookie of the Month for October.
Ranked 5th in the country, the Golden Knight Women, with a 13-3-2 overall record and an 8-0-0 league mark, take a 12-game unbeaten streak into tonight’s game against St. Lawrence at Cheel Arena.
Unbeaten in its last seven games the Clarkson men host Dartmouth and Harvard at Cheel this weekend. The Knights post an 8-5-3 overall record and a third-place 4-1-1 ECAC Hockey slate.
