Colavecchia and Rotolo garner Atlantic Hockey Association Weekly honors

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior forward Mike Colavecchia (Maple, Ontario/Lindsay Muskies) and freshman goaltender Mike Rotolo (Rochester, NY/Cedar Rapids Roughriders) of the RIT men’s hockey team were named the Atlantic Hockey Association Player and Goaltender of the week, respectively, on Tuesday, for the week ending Dec. 1, 2013. Colavecchia earned his first AHA weekly accolade of the season and fouth of his career, while Rotolo garnered his first honor.
Colavecchia tallied five points on a goal and four assists for the Tigers in a weekend sweep over Sacred Heart. On Friday, Colavecchia scored a third period power-play goal and added two assists in a 5-2 win. Colavecchia added a pair of assists in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over the Pioneers. Colavecchia has eight points over a four-game point-scoring streak and leads the team in scoring with 16 points (7-9-16) this season. Colavecchia has 16 points (8-8-16) in his last six games against the Pioneers. He is just three points shy of becoming the sixth player in RIT’s Division I history to reach 100 career points.

Rotolo, who attended Greece Athena High School, went 2-0-0 on the weekend with a 1.00 goals against average and .970 save percentage, stopping 64-of-66 shots in a weekend sweep over Sacred Heart. On Friday, Rotolo made 26 saves in a 5-2 win over the Pioneers. Less than 24 hours later, Rotolo stopped all 38 shots he faced to record his first collegiate shutout, 4-0 over Sacred Heart. He made 10 saves in the opening period, 15 in the second, and 13 in the third period. Rotolo has started RIT’s last three games and is now 3-0-0 this season with a 2.00 goals against average and .938 save percentage.

The Tigers, winners of three straight contests, are back in action on Friday and Saturday at Ritter Arena against American International. Both contests get underway at 7:05 p.m.
