HAMILTON – Senior Daniel Gentzler and junior Kyle Baun scored to lead No. 17 Colgate to a 2-2 tie against Cornell in ECAC Hockey action Saturday at Lynah Rink.
After a scoreless first period, the two teams traded goals during the first and final minute of the second. Christian Hilbrich gave the Big Red a 1-0 lead with a power play goal just 25 seconds into the middle frame, but Daniel Gentzler knotted the game at 1-1 with an unassisted effort 23.5 seconds before the second intermission.
The two sides once again exchanged goals in the third. Cornell took a 2-1 lead at the midway point of the frame when John McCarron deflected a shot home on the power play, only to see the Raiders tie it up with less than five minutes remaining on a rebound goal from Baun.
Sophomore Charlie Finn made 29 saves in goal for Colgate. Sophomore Mitch Gillam turned aside 23 shots between the pipes for Cornell.

How It Happened
– Cornell took a 1-0 lead just 25 seconds into the second period as Hilbrich tipped a point shot from Joakim Ryan past Finn to give the Big Red the lead. Cole Bardreau earned a secondary assist on the power play tally that came just two seconds before the penalty expired.
– Gentzler would tie the game at 1-1 with just 23.5 seconds remaining in the second period. After a faceoff in the Cornell zone, Gentzler collected a loose puck in the right faceoff circle and fired a shot that trickled past Gillam and into the cage for his first goal of the season.
– Cornell regained its lead at the 9:41 mark of the third period when McCarron he deflected a point shot from the middle of the slot into the top left-hand corner for his first goal of the season. Jacob MacDonald and Holden Anderson were credited with assists on the power play goal.
– Baun brought the Raiders level with 4:28 remaining in regulation with his team-leading 11th goal of the season. Junior Tyson Spink started the sequence by playing the puck back to sophomore Jake Kulevich at the left point. Kulevich then put a shot on net that Gilliam was able to stop, but the puck went to Baun, who slid the puck into the back of the net for the equalizer.
– In overtime, Colgate attempted all four shots taken during the extra session, but Gillam was up to the challenge each time, including a stop on a Kulevich slap shot through traffic during a power play opportunity.
