Colgate Announces 2015-16 Men’s Hockey Schedule

HAMILTON – Colgate Men’s Hockey Head Coach Don Vaughan announced the 2015-16 schedule on Wednesday, a 34-game slate that features 13 home contests in the final season at Starr Rink.

The Raiders begin their 23rd season under Vaughan Oct. 3-4 with a two-game series at Atlantic Hockey foe Mercyhurst. The home opener is set for Oct. 23, when RIT makes its way to Starr Rink for the first half of a weekend home-and-home series.

Defending national champion Providence comes to Hamilton for a two-game slate Oct. 30-31. The series marks the third straight campaign that Colgate has faced the defending national champion during the regular season.

ECAC Hockey competition begins for the Raiders in November when they host defending Cleary Cup Champion Quinnipiac (Nov. 6) and Princeton (Nov. 7). Colgate squares off against all 11 opposing league schools twice during the 2015-16 campaign.

The highly anticipated Cornell series is set for Nov. 13-14. The weekend set opens at Lynah Rink on Friday before heading to Starr Rink for the series finale on Saturday.

Colgate competes in a pair of in-season tournaments as part of its 2015-16 campaign. The Raiders head to Northern Ireland to participate in the inaugural Friendship Four Tournament during Thanksgiving week (Nov. 27-28). The Raiders join Brown, UMass-Lowell and Northeastern in Belfast for the two-day event.

Colgate also takes part in Vermont’s annual tournament just before the start of the new year (Dec. 29-30). The four-team event also features Brown and Lake Superior State.

Silver Puck Weekend is slated for Feb. 26-27, when Colgate officially closes Starr Rink and the regular season with ECAC Hockey contests against Capital District foes RPI and Union.

ECAC Hockey playoffs once again features all 12 teams competing for the Whitelaw Cup in a hybrid format. The first two rounds are a best-of-three series, while the semifinals and championship are single-elimination contests.

The top four teams in the ECAC Hockey regular season standings receive first-round byes before taking on the four opening round winners in quarterfinal-round action the following weekend. ECAC Hockey Championship Weekend is scheduled for March 18-19 at Herb Brooks Arena – 1980 Rink in Lake Placid.
