HAMILTON – Colgate Women’s Hockey matched its season-high in goals here Friday night with two tallies in each period to take a 6-2 victory over Brown.

With the win, the Raiders shift to 5-2-4 in ECAC Hockey play and remain in a tie with Clarkson for fourth place.

The Raiders jumped on the Bears early, taking a 2-0 edge just 6:15 into the contest. Hannah Rastrick started the scoring with her first goal of the year, followed by Annika Zalewski’s eighth and team-leading fourth power play tally.

Brown cut the lead in half late in the opening frame after a man-up advantage of its own to pull within 2-1 at the first intermission.

Olivia Zafuto scored what would be the eventual game-winner just 62 seconds into the middle period when she intercepted the puck and sparked a breakaway opportunity for herself.

Another power play tally from Shelby Perry handed the hosts a 4-1 edge midway through the frame. Colgate maintained its advantage, taking the three-goal lead into the second intermission. 22336

Again, the Bears cut the score in half when Bridget Carey converted on a power play opportunity just 1:46 into the last frame. But two more markers from Shae Labbe, Breanne Wilson-Bennett and the Raiders in the remaining minutes ultimately handed Colgate the victory.

Julia Vandyk remained unbeaten between the pipes for Colgate, notching the eighth win of her young career. The rookie posted 20 stops, while her counterpart Julianne Landry earned 27.

The Raiders have a quick turnaround as they play host to Yale on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Starr Rink. The Bulldogs are coming off a 6-4 defeat at Cornell on Friday night. Live stats and video will be available at the start.

How It Happened
• Rastrick put Colgate in front 1-0 with the third goal of her career. Rastrick rifled it home off the right post after Eldridge slotted the puck over to her from close range with a nifty pass.
• Colgate played tic-tac-toe for its second goal. Quirion had control of the puck at the left point and found Larson in the corner. Larson one-timed it over to Zalewski, who then one-timed it past Brown’s Landry for the 2-0 lead.
• The game’s turning point came early in the second. Brown had sliced Colgate’s lead in half with a late first-period goal and still had momentum and a power play for 30 second when the second period began. But the Raiders killed off the Bear advantage and then Zafuto stole the puck at her own blue line and sailed in for her fourth goal of the season. Zafuto took it the length of the ice, faked left and then beat Brown’s goalie low and to the right for a 3-1 lead.
• Colgate made it 4-1 when Perry was in the right place at the right time. Quirion threw the puck toward the net where Zalewski tried to make a play on it. The puck caromed off Zalewski’s skate but directly to the right of net. Perry was on the spot for the quick wrister, her sixth, to hand the Raiders the 4-1 lead.
• After Brown had closed to within 4-2, Colgate regained its three-goal advantage when Labbe scored on a wrist-shot from the slot. Larson stole the puck along the boards and fed Wilson-Bennett. The Colgate center skated down low and then fired a perfect pass to Labbe, who found the upper right corner for her team-leading 10th of the season.
• Colgate closed out the scoring when Wilson-Bennett notched one from a sharp angle 10 feet left of the goal. Labbe skated the puck around the right point and fed it along the boards. Quirion redirected it to Wilson-Bennett, whose shot may have deflected in off Landry for Colgate’s sixth goal of the game by six different scorers. 22338
