HAMILTON – Professional hockey teams across the world have begun play for the 2017-18 season, which means it’s time to see where some of your favorite former Raiders are playing and coaching this season.
The Raiders have 21 former players in professional hockey uniforms for the 2017-18 season. Chris Wagner highlights the group as he is the only former Raider on a NHL roster with the Anaheim Ducks for his fourth professional season and just played in his 100th career game.
Three graduates of the Class of 2017 are in the professional ranks for their first full seasons as Jake Kulevich ’17 will play for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose, Tim Harrison ’17 is with the ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder and Charlie Finn ’17 is playing with the SPHL’s Macon Mayhem.
In total, two former Raiders are in the AHL while another four are beginning the ECHL season Friday night. Two more former Raiders will play in the SPHL.
The Raiders also have 12 former players competing in various European Leagues, highlighted by four players in the Swedish Hockey league with Tylor and Tyson Spink ’16, Ryan Johnson ’15 and Cory Murphy ’01 competing against each other.
In addition to the 21 former Raiders playing professionally, the Raiders also have a solid contingent of alumni coaching in various levels of hockey from juniors in Canada through the NHL as well as Mike Milbury ’74 who is an analyst for NHL on NBC. There are two alumni in the NHL, one in the AHL, four in ECAC Hockey and one, Craig Woodcroft ’91, who will be coaching with Team Canada at the Olympic Games in South Korea this February.
