HAMILTON – Mike Panowyk (Whitby, Ontario) scored his first goal of the 2016-17 season as the Colgate men’s ice hockey team fell to the No. 4/3 Boston University Terriers, 6-1, at Class of 1965 Arena on Saturday, Oct. 8.

The goal was Panowyk’s 10th of his career and 28th career point as the Raider forward begins his junior season. Senior forward Tim Harrison (Duxbury, Massachusetts) picked up his second point of the season and first assist.

Panowyk’s got ended Terrier freshman goaltender Jake Oettinger’s shutout bid in his first career start, cutting Boston University’s lead to 6-1 with 8:13 left in the third period. Harrison fired a shot on goal that went wide right of the goal. Panowyk chased down the rebound, circled around the goal and made a diving wrap around shot that slid past Oettinger’s left pad.

Colgate netminder Charlie Finn (North Vancouver, British Columbia) recorded 22 saves in the Raiders’ loss before giving way to Bruce Racine (Bethesda, Maryland) for the final 10:38 of the game. Racine turned away both shots he faced.

Freshman forward Tyler Penner (Winnipeg, Manitoba) recorded the first penalty shot of the season for the Raiders. Trailing 3-0, Penner was tripped up by Brandon Hickey on a breakaway opportunity leading to the penalty shot. On the penalty shot, Hickey skated towards Oettinger, going to his left but Oettinger denied Penner of his first career goal.

Penner’s attempted penalty shot was the first for the Raiders since March 9, 2012 when Chris Wagner scored a penalty shot on Quinnipiac’s Eric Hartzell.

Patrick Harper, who scored his first two career goals, led Boston University offensively. Clayton Keller had a goal and an assist while Bobo Carpenter and Brandon Hickey each had two points in the win. Five different players scored goals for the Terriers Saturday night and 12 different players recorded a point in their season opener.

Oettinger made 29 saves for the Terriers to pick up his first career win in his first career start.
