NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four different Raiders scored goals Friday night as the Colgate men’s ice hockey team knocked off the nationally ranked No. 19 Yale Bulldogs, 4-1, at Ingalls Rink.
The Raiders’ win over the Bulldogs is their first against a nationally ranked team since shutting out Rensselaer, 2-0, on Feb. 26. It is also the first Raiders’ win over the Bulldogs since Jan. 26, 2013 to snap a seven-game winless streak in their all-time series.

Brett Corkey (Calgary, Alberta) led the Raiders with a power play goal and an assist while Ken Citron (Cos Cob, Connecticut) matched Corkey in points with a pair of assists in his return to the state of Connecticut.

Tim Harrison (Duxbury, Massachusetts), Hunter Racine (Ottawa, Ontario) and Sebastian Weberg (Oslo, Norway) also added goals for the Raiders in the win.

Colgate played a stellar game defensively Friday night, blocking a season-high 31 including a national-high six saves by Citron. The Raiders also continued their impressive penalty killing as they went 5 for 5 when skating a man down.

Goaltender Charlie Finn (North Vancouver, British Columbia) stood on his head for the third straight game, making 36 saves on 37 shots. Finn has now made 103 saves on 106 shots in the last three games. Finn made 13 saves with the Raiders on the penalty kill and topped all 28 shots over the final two periods of the game.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead with 13:15 left in the first period as Harrison collected a pass from Emilio Audi (Montreal, Quebec) and skated one-on-one with Yale goaltender Patrick Spano, beating him high, glove side for his third goal of the season.

Yale answered back just 1:25 later on Joe Snively’s first goal of the season. After receiving a pass from John Hayden, Snively skated in on Finn before wristing the shot through his five-hole to tie the game, 1-1.

Racine gave the Raiders a 2-1 lead with 17:36 left in the second period on a net-front play. Andrew Black (Buffalo, New York) picked off a wrap around clear attempt by the Bulldogs and fired the puck on goal. Spano made the initial save before Racine tapped home the puck off the rebound.

Colgate added its third goal of the game with 11:39 left in the second period on Weberg’s power play goal. Bobby McMann (Wainwright, Alberta) made a great play to keep the defender off the puck and find Corkey at the point. Corkey worked the puck to Snodgrass down next to the left post who then found Weberg by the right post to jam the puck past Spano.

After a missed shot by the Raiders late in the third period, Corkey collected the puck at the left point before shifting it to the point to Citron. Citron skated to his right before pass the puck back to Corkey who rifled a shot past a perfect screen by Harrison in front of Spano for the Raiders’ second power play goal of the game.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Don Vaughan
“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen [Finn] find pucks like he is right now, he just seems to be in the zone and we need him to. They played desperate hockey in the third period, we were back on our heals against a really good team and Charlie came up big when we needed it.”

Goaltender Charlie Finn
“I think we were all locked in, honestly. As a team, defensively, we played great. Our PK was amazing, big credit to our guys blocking shots, getting in lanes and all the stuff the coaches preach.”
