HAMILTON – The Colgate women’s ice hockey team moved up three spots to No. 5 in the nation in the USCHO.com Division I Women’s Poll, as announced on Monday, Oct. 16.
The Raiders No. 5 national ranking is tied for the highest in program history after they were ranked that high on Nov. 7 and 14 of the 2016-17 season.
Colgate received 88 points in the poll, also the most in program history, as they climbed to be the second-highest ranked team in ECAC Hockey behind Clarkson who was ranked second with five first-place votes. St. Lawrence (No. 6) and Cornell (No. 10) are also ranked in the USCHO Top 10.
The Raiders are coming off a dominant weekend sweep of the Northeastern Huskies, ranked No. 6 last week before dropping to No. 9 this week.
Shae Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) and Jessie Eldridge (Barrie, Ontario) led the Raiders, and all of ECAC Hockey, with five points each. They both scored two power-play goals over the weekend, while Labbe led the team with three total goals.
Sophomore goaltender Liz Auby (Stoughton, Wisconsin) continued her impressive start to the season, shutting out Northeastern on Saturday before yielding her first goal of the season on Sunday. Auby’s personal shutout streak ended at four games and a total time of 308:44. She is 4-0-0 with three shutouts, a 0.50 GAA and .971 save percentage this season.
Colgate welcomes the Mercyhurst Lakers (1-4-1, 1-1-0 CHA) to Hamilton this weekend to conclude their six-game homestand to open the 2017-18 season. Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. followed by 3 p.m. on Saturday.
