TELFS, Austria – Colgate women’s ice hockey freshman Livia Altmann (Arosa, Switzerland) will compete for Switzerland’s National Team at the Nations Cup held in Fussen, Germany and Telfs, Austria beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Altmann will resume her role as captain of the team since taking over the leadership position during the 2015-16 season.
“This is another wonderful opportunity for Livia to lead her Swiss team on the world stage once again,” Colgate women’s ice hockey head coach Greg Fargo said. “She’s having a great first season with us at Colgate and the experience here will serve her well throughout this event.
“We are very proud of her and are looking forward to cheering her on at the Nations Cup.”
Altmann has been a member of the Swiss Senior National Team since 2012-13. She has competed in three world championships and one Olympic Games, where she won a bronze medal. Altmann has also competed in numerous other national team tournaments, including the Nations Cup.
The Swiss open up Group B play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Telfs, Austria against Russia before moving on to face Austria at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Switzerland will close out group play on Friday at 4 p.m. against Finland. Saturday marks the final day of the tournament with the 7th and 8th place game as well as the 5th and 6th place games played in Telfs while the bronze and gold medal games will be played in Fussen, Germany.
Altmann is one of three players from Switzerland that is playing college hockey in the United States along with Yale’s Phoebe Staenz and Minnesota Duluth’s Lara Stalder.
Altmann has two points on a goal and an assist through the first 19 games of her collegiate career for the Raiders with both coming in ECAC Hockey play. Altmann scored the game-winning goal at Union in a 2-0 while on Oct. 28 before picking up an assist against Yale on Nov. 11.
While Altmann is competing for Switzerland in the Nations Cup, the Colgate women’s ice hockey team will travel out to St. Cloud, Minnesota for a two-game series with the St. Cloud State Huskies on Friday, Jan. 6 at 7:07 p.m. (CT) and Saturday, Jan. 7 at 3:07 p.m. (CT).
