ALBANY – Colgate men’s ice hockey freshman Jared Cockrell (Byfield, Massachusetts) has been named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
Cockrell is the first Raider to win a league award this season and earned his first career award from ECAC Hockey.
Cockrell scored his first career goal and recorded the first two points of his career with a goal and an assist in the Raiders 4-3 loss at Merrimack on Friday night.
He tallied his first assist on Sebastian Weberg’s (Oslo, Norway) power-play goal early in the second period, picking up the primary assist with a great pass to Weberg near the slot. Cockrell opened up the third period with his first career goal, burying the rebound from an Adam Dauda (Kitchener, Ontario) shot.
