Utica, N.Y. – The Utica Comets defeated the Rochester Americans by a score of 2-1 in overtime Wednesday night at the Adirondack Bank Center.
A back and forth first period went scoreless thanks to superb efforts from Thatcher Demko and Linus Ullmark, each stopping 10 shots apiece.
Rochester netted the game’s first goal off the stick of Garret Ross five minutes into the second period. Conor Allen and Adam Krause had the assists.
Jayson Megna tied the game with a shorthanded goal eight minutes into the final period. Patrick Wiercioch and Cam Darcy picked up the assists. Neither team could find the net in the final 12 minutes of regulation and the game would go to overtime.
Reid Boucher netted the game-winning goal a minute and half into overtime. Darcy tallied the lone assist.
Demko finished with 29 saves and his record improves to 7-5-1. Ullmark stopped 31 of 33 shots. His record falls to. 9-3-2. The Comets power play did not get an opportunity, while the penalty kill was a perfect 4-4.
The Comets are back in action Friday night as they host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. A special pregame tree lighting ceremony will be held on the AUD Plaza at 5 p.m. and the puck drops at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to utilize the ticket exchange website, StubHub!.
