The WNYGVIH season has ended. We have our champions in Kenmore/Grand Island and Monsignor Martin. Now we say goodbye to our seniors. They have given us years of exciting hockey, showed their skills and we will miss them.

Clarence/Amherst/Sweet Home:

Allison Greene has played on the CASH team since 8th grade and will be attending Indiana Tech for biomedical engineering and she plans to continue playing hockey after graduating from Clarence High School.

Isabella Clary joined CASH as an 8th grader and although undecided about the college, she will follow a pre-med track. Clary is also graduating from Clarence High School.

Jane Ablove, Clarence High School, joined CASH in 9th grade and plans to study engineering.

Zoe Hallowell. This Sweet Home Senior will be attending Niagara University for sports marketing and will be playing hockey. NU has recently brought back their Club-level team.

Jessica Yu will graduate from Clarence High School. She joined CASH in 9th grade and will be attending Niagara University to major in biology with a minor in social work.

Allison Greene was named to the 2022 WNYGVIH All Federation First Team. Greene was fifth on the Scoring Leader list with 19 goals and 4 assists for 23 points.

Frontier/Lakeshore/Orchard Park:

FLOP 2022 Seniors Taylor Loretto, Taylor Joyce, Samantha Torgerson, Kathleen Doughtery, Carlin Jones

Forward Katie Doughtery has been a member of the team for four years. She is undecided as to the college she will be attending but plans to major in education. Being able to make some incredible friends is her best memory of playing hockey. Her Mom, Jacqueline, joined her for Senior Night.

Forward Carlin Jones has been a member of the team for four years. Also undecided about the college she does want to study Data Science. She enjoyed the team’s spaghetti dinners. Her parents are Matt and Amy.

Forward Taylor Joyce played four years for FLOP and will study Computer Science at a yet undecided college. Playing four years of hockey with her best friends is what she is taking with her. Her parents are Pat and Karen.

Forward Taylor Loretto has been a member for four seasons and wants a career as a social worker. Winning the Federation Championship is her favorite memory. Loretto’s parents are Pete and Carla.

Defenseman Samantha Torgerson has been with FLOP for five years and was part of an amazing three championship season when FLOP took the Sectional, Federation and State Championship. She plans to study physical education and play hockey in her college career. She will remember the championships at both her Travel and High School hockey. Her Mom, Tracy, joined her for her ceremony.

Samantha Torgerson was named to the 2022 WNYGVIH All Federation Second Team. 

Katie Doughtery was named to the 2022 WNYGVIH All Federation Third Team. Doughtery had 7 goals and 11 assists this season.

Hamburg/Eden/West Seneca

HEWS Class of 2022: Jackie Supples, Allison Regian, Kathryne O’Brien, Elizabeth O’Brien, Morgan Jozwiak

Morgan Jozwiak will attend either SUNY Cortland or SUNY Geneseo. She was Athlete of the Week.

Elizabeth O’Brien played four years for HEWS, was a scholar athlete and plans for a career in Nursing.

Kathryne O’Brien also played four years and is the twin sister of Elizabeth. She will be studying physical education at a college yet to be determined.

Allison Regian played two years for HEWS and will be attending either SUNY Oswego or SUNY Geneseo.

Jackie Supples played four years for HEWS, also plays softball and tennis and is undecided as to what college she will be attending.

Kenmore/Grand Island:

KGI Seniors Carissa Buyea, Molly Leggett, Ava Incorvaia, Morgan Brown

Morgan Brown played for four years with KGI. She will be attending Niagara University in biology and Pre-med. Playing in the sectional final is a memorable moment. Anthony and Heather Brown are her parents. Her sister, Lily, joined her Senior Night.

Ava Incorvaia has played five years for KGI and is headed to Yale University in political science. She will remember all the jokes, songs, Oreo balls but says its what she shared with her teammates over the years. “It’s hard to pick a favorite because I’ve constantly created new ones every practice, bus ride, and of course in every pregame locker room.” Marc and Renee are her parents. Brother, Patrick, joined in on Senior Night.

Molly Leggett played for five years and served as KGI captain. She will be playing hockey for Neumann College while studying sports management and playing for their women’s ice hockey team. Her favorite memory is two years ago when they played MonMar in the league playoffs and knocked them out in the first round. Leggett’s parents are Joe and Carolyn.

Carissa Buyea joined KGI in seventh grade and served as Captain for 3 years. She will head off to Buffalo State College in health and wellness, as well as being a member of the Bengals Ice Hockey Team. She remembers the trip to Plattsburgh and all the memories she has been with everyone through the years. Scott and Heather Buyea are her parents. Her brother, Tyler, joined her for Senior Nights.

Carissa Buyea was named to the 2022 WNYGVIH All Federation Third Team. She had 6 goals and 10 assists this season.

Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew

LID Seniors Maddie Braun, Abby Ceisner, Grace Galuszka, MacKenzie Walkowiak, Summer Cole, Alyssa Bashaw, Haylie Petyk

Grace Galuszka joined LID as an 11th grader from Lancaster and completed her second season with them, although she has 13 years of hockey experience. She was the recipient of the Rose Robinson Award for Ice Hockey and also competed for the Lancaster Track Team for one year. She has been on the Honor Roll her entire high school career and currently has a 4.0 GPA. She will be attending College to study Electrical Engineering. She is the daughter of Bill and Julie Galuszka.

Abi Ceisner completed her fourth year as a LID player from Lancaster HS. She received the Sportsmanship Award for the 2021 season and has been on the High Honor Roll from 2018 through this year. She will be attending a four-year university next year to study psychology. Her parentws are Todd and Tracie Ceisner.

MacKenzie Walkowiak has just completed her fifth season with LID from the Iroquois School District. In addition to hockey Walkowiak plays field hockey and track and field. She was named Athlete of the Week twice and took the Unsung Hero Award in Track and Field. Her plans are to continue playing ice hockey or Track and Field in college. She will be attending either Robert Morris or SUNY Cortland in Biomedical Sciences. She is the daughter of Jay and Tracy Walkowiak.

Hailey Petyk completed her fourth year as a LID player from Depew High School. She served as co-captain this season and was also a Varsity bowler for two years, Varsity golfer for two and played Varsity Lacrosse for two years at Depew. She competed in sectionals in both golf and bowling, was named to Third Team All-Star in Lacrosse and voted as the Most Athletic for her Senior year. She is a member of the Academy of Finance and was named Business Student of the Month after participating in many fundraisers for her high school. Although not committed to a college program at this time she is planning to attend programs in Pre-Med or Physician Assistant. Petyk is the daughter of Jeff and Kelly Petyk.

Summer Cole has been with LID since 8th grade. She also played modified Lacrosse and was recognized as Student of the Month for Business, Health and Character Athlete during her high school tenure. She served as Co-Captain for LID this year. Cole is currently in the Academy of Finance Program at Lancaster and works with the YMCA After School Program at William Street School. Her plans are to attend Buffalo State  College or Daemen College in Social Studies Education. Cole is the daughter of Dan and Maria Cole.

Maddie Braun graduates from Iroquois School after six years on the LID Ice Hockey Team. She served as Co-Captain this season and has been recognized as an All-Fed Honorable Mention Defenseman during her sophomore and junior years. A member of the National Honor Society, Braun plans to continue her education at Buffalo State College, pursuing a degree in Political Science and playing for the women’s ice hockey team. Braun’s parents are Kyle and Lisa Braun.

Alyssa Bashaw joined the LID team as a freshman at Depew High School. She has played both defense and offense all four years and is also a varsity soccer and lacrosse player. She was Captain of both teams and has been named to the Honor Roll every year. She is planning to attend Buffalo State College and major in psychology. She is the daughter of Jen and Joe Bashaw. 

Monsignor Martin

Senior Captain Mia Boyd from Sacred Heart Academy played four years on the MonMar Team and was selected twice to the All-WNY Federation hockey team. She also plays Lacrosse for Sacred Heart and plans to study criminology and psychology. She is most proud of how MonMar has grown this year and all they have accomplished in the last 4 years, including winning the 2021 Federation Cup. Her parents are Don and Ann.

Senior Captain Camryn Brownschidle is also from Sacred Heart Academy. She began playing in the WNYGVIH Federation as an 8th grader and played with MonMar for the past four years. She was selected to the All-WNY Federation Hockey Team twice. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a class officer and student council member for all four years of high school. Camryn will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology in their five-year Physician’s Assistant Program and will play D1 hockey for the Tigers. Her favorite memories are winning the Federation Cup last season and the bonding at this year’s Christmas Party. Her parents are Head Coach Mark and Pauline Brownschidle.

Emily Fisher has been playing hockey for 13 years, the past four with MonMar. She also plays Lacrosse at Sacred Heart Academy. She has been accepted at the University of Vermont. A member of the National Honor Society, she is most proud of MonMar’s hard work throughout the season and the progress she has made as a player over four years. Her parents are John and Michele.

Abby Marion played for MonMar for the past three years. She also plays Soccer, Lacrosse and Cross County for Mt St. Mary’s Academy. Marion will be attending Oswego State College where she will be playing Lacrosse. She is most proud of having the perseverance to come back and make the MonMar team as a sophomore after not making it as a freshman. Her favorite memory was winning the Federation Cup in 2021 in a tight and challenging game. Jeff and Kelly Marion are her parents.

Carys Popat comes from Nardin Academy and has been with MonMar for three years. She also plays soccer. Popat will be attending Northeastern University focusing on environmental science and sustainability. She is proud of meeting the challenge of transitioning from a defensive career to playing offense for Monsignor Martin. Her favorite memory was singing and dancing their hearts out to Taylor Swift after winning a challenging and great game. Popat’s parents are Saurin and Katherine.

Sara Primiano played for Monsignor Martin last season and would have played a significant role on the team. Unfortunately she could not participate due to a leg injury sustained right before the beginning of the 2021-22 season. Primiano will graduate from Mt. St. Mary’s Academy. (Sara was unable to be at the Senior Night).

Grace Russo served as a Senior Captain and played three years for MonMar. She will graduate from Sacred Heart Academy and plans to study pre-law in college. In addition to hockey, she is with Crew at her high school, as well as a member of the National Honor Society and STEM Honors Program. She is most proud of her travel team earning a spot in the States this year, giving her an opportunity for a NYS Championship one more time. Her memories of MonMar are this year’s Christmas Party and a victory over Williamsville at Riverworks. Her Dad, Mike, joined in on Senior Night.

Last, but not least, is Nardin Academy’s Sophia Will. Will began playing in the WNYGVIH Federation as an eighth grader and has played on MonMar for the past four seasons, guarding the net. She was named to the All-WNY Federation Hockey Team once. In addition to hockey, she plays softball for Nardin. She will be attending Middlebury College as a biology major and member of their women’s ice hockey team. Her proudest accomplishment is having a shutout streak of 265 minutes, almost 6 games in a row. Her favorite memory was beating  Williamsville last season in a very close game. Mike and Pauline Will are her parents.

Sophia Will was named as the goalie to the 2022 WNYGVIH All Federation First Team. 

Camryn Brownschidle was named to the 2022 WNYGVIH All Federation First Team. She had 16 goals and 12 assists this season, placing second on the season points leader list.

Mia Boyd was named to the 2022 WNYGVIH All Federation Third Team with 7 goals and 10 assists this season. 

Niagara County Lady Warriors:

Kayla Persinger played for three years and will be continuing her hockey career when she attends Cortland State College.

Skylar Berube is a four year member of the Lady Warriors. She has not chosen her college but she will be majoring in chemical engineering.

Natalie Ponzi will go to Niagara University for elementary education and she will play for the newly re-organized women’s ice hockey team.

Kahealani Wojcinski will graduate from Lewiston-Porter and then attending Niagara County Community College for culinary arts.

Kayla Persinger was named to the WNYGVIH All Federation First Team. She had 9 goals and 16 assists.

Skylar Berube was named to the WNYGVIH All Federation Second Team. 

St. Mary’s of Lancaster

St. Mary’s of Lancaster Senior Mia Moore with her parents Shane and Michelle.

Mia Moore has the distinction of being the first Senior to graduate from the St. Mary’s of Lancaster Ice Hockey Team. She only had one season with the team, in their inaugural year, but she has been a tremendous asset to her team, according to Coach Maeghan Roberts. Moore will be studying political science at a college/university yet to be determined. Her parents, Shane and Michelle Moore, escorted her on Senior Night.

Williamsville

Williamsvilel Seniors Vanessa Willick, Gianna DiFilippo and Claire O’Donnell

Gianna DiFilippo joined the Williamsville team this season and is planning to study physical therapy. Her favorite memory was the ride back from Skaneateles on the bus with her teammates.

Claire O’Donnell has been a member of the team for five years. She plans to attend the University of Buffalo in nursing. Making S’Mores at the States in Lake Placid was her favorite memory. (That was the year of the snow storm in Placid).

Vanessa Willick served as Captain this year and played 4 years for Williamsville. She would like to study primary education after graduation. Winning the State Championship in her freshman year was her favorite memory. 

Vanessa Willick was named to the 2022 WNYGVIH All Federation First Team. Willick had 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points. Willick also made the All Time Leaders List placing 16th with 49 goals and 48 assists for 97 points in her four-year career.
