ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 8 women’s hockey team gave the home crowd quite the show as it powered through to a 5-2 victory over Quinnipiac on Friday night.
Kristin O’Neill and Sarah Knee each scored twice while Grace Graham added in a goal herself to account for all five of the Big Red’s goals.
O’Neill game out strong for Cornell (2-1-0, 2-1-0 ECAC Hockey), netting the first two goals of the game in the second period. Only about three minutes of playing time separated the goals as the sophomore boosted the Big Red to a 2-0 lead early in the second frame. Grace Graham would increase Cornell’s lead even further as she buried in a puck later in the same period to make it 3-0.
Kenzie Prater would get Quinnipiac (5-5-0, 1-2-0 ECAC Hockey) on the scoreboard a couple of minutes after Graham’s goal, but Sarah Knee added in two of goals of her own, including an empty netter, in the third period to keep the game out of reach for the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac’s Melissa Samoskevich scored the second goal for the opposition midway through the third period.
Marlene Boissonnault was spectacular in the crease, recording 29 total saves throughout the game to earn the winning decision.
Cornell is back at Lynah Rink tomorrow to take on Princeton for an Ivy League clash. Puck is set ot drop at 3 p.m.
