ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshman forward Dalton Bancroft and senior defenseman Sam Malinski have been honored by ECAC Hockey with weekly awards following the Big Red’s sweep of RPI and Union at Lynah Rink last weekend.

Bancroft earned his third Rookie of the Week honor after registering three points in the pair of victories. It is Bancroft’s fourth overall honor from the ECAC this season, as he was also tabbed the conference’s Player of the Week on Nov. 28 following his hat trick at Madison Square Garden in The Frozen Apple against UConn.

All three of Bancroft’s points came in Cornell’s 10-1 win over Union on Saturday. The Madoc, Ontario, native scored twice in the Big Red’s six-goal first period, while also assisting on another first-period tally.

On the year, Bancroft has 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) in 22 games, which is the highest by a Cornell freshman this season. His eight goals are tied with Malinski for the team lead, and five of Bancroft’s eight goals have come while on the power play.

Malinski was tabbed ECAC Hockey’s Defenseman of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks after logging five points last weekend.

Against Union, Malinski recorded a career-high four points highlighted by his first multi-goal game of his collegiate career.

The Lakeville, Minn., native paces Cornell’s offense with a team-leading 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) in 23 games this season. He is also currently on a 10-game point streak, which is tied for the second-longest active streak with Boston University’s freshman defenseman Lane Hutson. Colgate’s Alex Young has the longest active point streak, notching points in his last 12 appearances.

Only one of the three players to have a 10-game point streak under Mike Schafer ’86, Malinski is tied with Matt Moulson for the second-longest point streak by a Cornell player since Schafer took over prior to the 1995-96 campaign. Matt Stienburg currently owns the longest streak, having recorded a point in 11 consecutive games last season.
