ITHACA, N.Y. — On a Jan. 30 game on the road, host Quinnipiac’s goaltender turned in a stellar performance to shut out the Cornell women’s hockey team’s resurgent offense — and part of the that effort was also ending Big Red junior forward Gillis Frechette’s nine-game scoring streak. But since that rare silencing, Frechette sure has made a lot of noise.

ECAC Hockey announced on Monday that Frechette’s gaudy nine-point output over Cornell’s last three games has garnered her Driscoll Skating and Skills Player of the Week honors.

With Frechette headlining the offense, the Big Red has continued a strong start to the 2022 portion of its schedule — most recently including victories over two teams ahead of it in the ECAC Hockey standings, St. Lawrence (on Tuesday) and eighth-ranked Colgate (on Sunday). Frechette factored into all of Cornell’s goals in a 4-0 whitewash of the Saints, scoring twice and adding two assists to give the Big Red its first four-point effort of the season.

After dishing out a pair of assists in Saturday’s game against Harvard, Frechette book-ended her 11th goal of the season with two more helpers in Sunday’s victory over Colgate. Frechette has pushed her team-leading point total to 32, with half of those coming in just the last eight games. Having now factored into 16 of the Big Red’s last 19 goals, Frechette’s average of 1.45 points per game for the season is 11th-highest in the country.

Frechette becomes the third member of the team to earn the league’s player of the week honor — all within the last five weeks. Junior forward Izzy Daniel captured the honor on Jan. 10, then freshman forward Leah MacSween claimed it the following week.
