CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) turned aside 32 shots and junior Maggie Corbett (Queensbury/Queensbury H.S.) netted the game’s lone goal early in the third period as the Cortland women’s ice hockey team defeated Buffalo St.,1-0, Sunday afternoon in ECAC West action. The Red Dragons improved to 6-14-2 and 5-9-2 in the conference with the win, while the Bengals fell to 10-11-1 and 8-8.
The team’s were scoreless through two periods as Meunier made 21 saves through 40 minutes and Buffalo St. freshman goalie Justine Silva (El Monte, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) registered 14 of her 17 saves in the contest.
Early in the third period, Corbett blocked a shot at the left point, gathered the puck and beat Silva on a breakaway to make it a 1-0 game at the 48-second mark. After earning a power play with 2:49 remaining, the Bengals pulled Silva for an extra skater. Cortland killed off the penalty and kept Buffalo St. from scoring the equalizer with the extra skater.
The Red Dragons conclude their regular season with a pair of conference games at William Smith next weekend.
