CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 29 saves, including 12 in the third period, and senior Kaitlyn Ryan (Windsor/Adrian College) netted a second-period power-play goal to lead the Cortland women’s ice hockey team to a 1-0 victory versus Morrisville Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Arena.

Senior Niamh O’Connor (Paramus, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) assisted on the goal for the Red Dragons (4-6-1). Freshman goalie Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, AB/Thorsby Thunder) turned aside 25 shots for the Mustangs (5-8-2).

After a scoreless first period, Ryan netted the game winner at 14:27 of the second period, knocking a shot past Schmaltz on the right side after O’Connor won a faceoff.

In the third period, the Red Dragons needed to kill off five Morrisville power plays, including being down two players for 1:20 and an extra skater for the Mustangs for nearly a minute of play late in the period. In the closing seconds, Cortland was down a player and Morrisville had an extra skater as Schmaltz was pulled, but the Red Dragons held off the Mustangs in winning their third game in a row.
