MILTON, MASS. – The Curry men’s hockey team had four different players score a goal as the Colonels defeated Cortland, 4-3, Sunday night in the second of two games between the two teams over the weekend. The Red Dragons fell to 4-6-3 with the loss, while Curry improved to to 3-7-2 after winning both games of the series.

Sophomore Darren McCormick (Buffalo/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) recorded his first career hat trick for Cortland. Senior Ryan Wagner (Buffalo/Aberdeen Wings), sophomore Dan Broderick (White Plains/New York PAL Islanders) and freshmen Spencer Gourlay (Carlisle, ON/Halton Ravens) and Michael Crowley (Buffalo/Springfield Blues) each recorded one assist. Sophomore goalie Kollyn Jones (Cazenovia/New York PAL Islanders) turned aside 34 shots.

Shane Tracy tallied one goal and one assist for the Colonels. Sean Nelson scored what proved to be the game winner at 8:41 of the third period. Mack Heisinger and Michael Vallescuro each added a goal, Adam Valadao collected two assists and Tyler Vankleef and James Murphy chipped in with one assist apiece.

After a scoreless first period, Curry grabbed the lead at 1:17 of the second period on Heisinger’s goal. McCormick tied the game with his first goal of the night at 5:51 before Tracy netted a power-play goal at 18:21 on a rebound and Vallescuro made it a 3-1 game 28 seconds later with an unassisted effort. McCormick, however, answered with his second goal of the game just two seconds before the end of the period as Cortland skated on the man advantage.

Nelson gave the Colonels back a two-goal lead at 8:41 of the third period, but McCormick picked up his third goal of the game less than five minutes later to pull the Red Dragons within 4-3. In the closing minutes, Cortland killed off a Curry power play, then pulled Jones for an extra skater with one minute remaining as the Colonels skated with another man advantage, but could not send the game into overtime with the tying goal.
