Sara Culhane scored a pair of third-period goals to help lead the nationally 10th-ranked Amherst College women’s hockey team to a 4-0 non-conference win over Cortland Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman goalie Kelly Farinella (Marlton, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 35 saves for the Red Dragons (2-7-2), while goalie Yuna Evans stopped seven shots in posting the shutout for the Lord Jeffs (6-2-2).
Erin Martin and Eileen Harris each added a goal for Amherst. Camille Herzog and Lynndy Smith collected two assists apiece, and Tori Salmon, Barrett McBride and Melissa Martin each contributed one assist.
Martin put the Lord Jeffs on the scoreboard four minutes, 51 seconds into the game before Harris made it a 2-0 score at 10:30 of the opening period. Farinella turned aside all 11 shots she faced in the second period to keep the game at 2-0 heading into the final 20 minutes.
Culhane sealed the win for Amherst with her first goal of the game at 4:54 and capped the scoring with her second tally at the 16:28 mark.
The Red Dragons return to action with a non-conference game at Hamilton College this Friday at 4 p.m.
