Cortland Upset by Hamilton

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Four different players scored goals and two goalies combined to make 14 saves as the Hamilton College women’s ice hockey team defeated Cortland, 4-0, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 1-10-1 with the setback, while the Continentals improved to 7-3 on the season.

For Cortland, freshman goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 31 saves. Senior Becca Hazlett (Grosse Pointe Park, MI/Taft School) started in goal for Hamilton, making five saves in the opening period before giving way to junior Tori Bogen (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI/Victory Honda), who stopped nine shots over the final two periods.

Junior Jill Tokarczyk (North Tonawanda/Buffalo Bisons) led the Continentals with a goal and an assist. Senior Katie Zimmerman (Plymouth, MA/Victory Honda) and juniors Hannah Jaiven (Holland, MI/Belle Tire) and Nikki Haskins (Quincy, MA/Southfield School) each netted one goal with freshmen Ianthe Lekometros (Teaneck, NJ/Mid-Fairfield Connecticut Stars) and Hannah Bartlett (Marshfield, MA/Massachusetts Spitfires) recording one assist apiece.

Zimmerman scored what proved to be the game-winner at seven minutes, fifty-five seconds of the first period when she scored from the left side on a rebound. Jaiven made it a 2-0 game at 17:07 of the first, scoring on a wrist shot from inside the blue line through traffic on the power play.

Haskins scored on a breakaway just 28 seconds into the second period to put Hamilton ahead 3-0, and Tokarczyk completed the scoring when she forced a turnover at the right boards and beat Meunier with a quick shot from the right circle at 17:46 of the second..
