Four different players scored goals as Neumann salvaged a split of its weekend series with Cortland as the Knights defeated the Red Dragons, 4-2.
Neumann improved to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the ECAC West. Cortland is 2-6-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the league. The Red Dragons defeated Neumann on Friday night, 2-1.
Angela Gilmour finished with a goal and an assist for the Knights. Grace Klienbach, Sarah Thon and Shanelle Doucette each scored once and Meghan Power recorded two assists. Justina Mayr made 14 saves.
For Cortland, junior Abbie Adams (Potsdam/Cornwall Typhoons) and sophomore Niamh O’Connor (Paramus, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) each scored a goal and freshman Sydney Carlucci (Baldwinsville/Rochester Edge) had an assist. Sophomore Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) recorded 31 saves as Neumann held a 35-16 advantage in shots on goal.
Klienbach gave the hosts a 1-0 lead 6:07 into the first period off a Gilmour assist. Gilmour scored on a power play 9:35 into the second period, set up by Power, to extend the Neumann lead to 2-0.
Cortland got on the board 14:41 into the second period when Adams scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Carlucci, with the Red Dragons on the power play. Thon scored with 3:44 left in the second period and each team down a skater to put Neumann up 3-1, but O’Connor answered only 13 seconds later with an unassisted goal to make it a 3-2 game.
Doucette scored the lone goal of the third period, assisted by Dru Austin, 2:25 into the stanza.
