CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore goalie Kelly Farinella (Marlton, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) made 20 saves to post her first career shutout as the Cortland women’s ice hockey team skated to a 2-0 victory versus Neumann University Sunday afternoon in ECAC West action. The Red Dragons, who defeated the Knights 1-0 on Saturday, posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since blanking Chatham in two straight games early in the 2009-10 season.

Senior Gwen Paul (Incline Village, NV/San Jose Sharks) and junior Laura Drew (Andover, MA/Canterbury School) each netted goals for Cortland (3-12-1 overall, 3-6-1 ECAC West). Senior Abbie Adams (Potsdam/Cornwall Typhoons) and sophomore Ashley Terry (Redford/Chazy Lady Flyers) recorded one assist apiece. Junior goalie Justina Mayr (New Westminster, BC/Pacific Steelers) allowed one goal and made 23 saves for Neumann (3-14-1, 1-11).

After a scoreless first period, Drew gave Cortland a 1-0 lead at 7:29 of the second period, knocking in a loose puck just 10 seconds after a Red Dragon power play expired. The game remained 1-0 until late in the third period. After Cortland killed off a Neumann power play with less than four minutes remaining, the Knights pulled Mayr for an extra skater with 49 seconds on the clock. As Neumann attempted to move the puck past center ice, Terry broke up the play and the puck went to Paul, who fired a shot into the empty goal for her team-high fifth goal of the season to seal the win.
