PITTSBURGH, Pa. – In a game plagued by penalties on both sides, Syracuse (2-4-3, 2-0-1 CHA) and Robert Morris (6-1-4, 2-0-1 CHA) ended Friday’s night game in 2-2 tie at Lumber Arena.

Emily Costales scored the first goal of the game in the first period on assists from Dakota Derrer and Megan Quinn. The Orange kept the lead until 19:07 of the second period, when the Colonials knotted the game at 1-1.

The Robert Morris goal in the second period was the first goal allowed by goaltender Abbey Miller since Oct. 22 at Colgate, equaling 144:32 without a goal. Miller ended the game with 25 saves.

Costales scored again in the third period with under minutes left to play. This time the goal was facilitated by Jessica Sibley and Derrer. The Colonials pulled their goalie late in the game to give themselves an extra-person advantage. With six attacking players, Robert Morris was able to score with nine seconds remaining in the game to send it to overtime.

Both sides had chances in the overtime period, but the game ended with a 2-2 draw.

“The game was marred by 24 minor penalties, so there was very little flow to the game,” head coach Paul Flanagan said. “Our penalty killers worked extremely hard tonight and Abbey Miller made several outstanding saves to help us secure the tie.”

Syracuse and Robert Morris will be back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lumber Arena.
