Crunch to Host “Hockey & Heels: A Night of Women’s Health” Feb. 27

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Crunch Foundation and Upstate University Hospital are partnering to honor those who have fought breast and cardiac issues by hosting ‘Hockey & Heels: A Night of Women’s Health’ Friday, February 27.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink and red to that night’s game against the Albany Devils to help raise awareness about breast and cardiac health. Tickets for ‘Hockey & Heels’ can be purchased for $17 by using the code ‘HEELS,’ with a portion of the proceeds going to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund and Strong Women, Strong Hearts.

Hockey 101
The Crunch are offering women a chance to register for a special pre-game ‘Hockey 101’ in Assembly Hall with Shannon Zettler, wife of head coach Rob Zettler. Zettler’s hockey-basics talk, beginning at 6:10 p.m., will be followed by information from breast and cardiac health experts from Upstate University Hospital. Attendees will be treated to refreshments and access to exclusive raffle items. Fans can register for the talk by emailing the Crunch office at [email protected] (please include your name and phone number).

In-game festivities
Fans will be able to participate in ‘Hockey & Heels’ festivities throughout the arena starting when doors open at 6 p.m., as well. The Syracuse Crunch prize wheel, located at the State Street merchandise stand, will benefit the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund and Strong Women, Strong Hearts, as well as proceeds from the sale of pink and red autographed mystery pucks. Raffles featuring autographed Syracuse Crunch memorabilia and other prizes will take place. Lacey Leonardi, Time Warner Cable News’ Traffic Anchor, will also be making a special guest appearance.

In addition to these activities, there will be free blood pressure, body mass index and cardiac risk assessment screenings for women and men, beginning at 7 p.m. in Assembly Hall.

Strong Women Strong Hearts is a program developed by Upstate nurses to educate all women on cardiovascular health.

The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of Central New York provides annual grants to Upstate researchers to further their studies into the cause of breast cancer as well as funding studies to find new treatments for the disease. Since 2002, the Baldwin Fund has provide nearly $4 million in funding to Upstate.
