PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The Union College women’s ice hockey skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with Brown on Saturday afternoon.
The Dutchwomen started off strong scoring just six minutes into the first period. Kathryn Tomaselli found the back of the net off assists from Jacyn Reeves and Katie Laughlin. Union held the lead for the entire first period. Even though they were outshot 12-5.
Brown tied it up in the second at the six minute mark. Sam Donovan popped one behind Melissa Black off assists from Bridget Carey and Kelly Micholson. The tie held for the rest of the second period.
Union broke the tie nine minutes into the third, when Elizabeth Otten scored the Dutchwomen’s first shorthanded goal of the season, she was assisted by Courtney Turner. They held the lead until there was 1:18 left on the clock, and Brown posted a late goal. Erin Conway was assisted by Maddie Woo and Leah Olson.
The two teams battled it out in the five minute overtime but neither team was able to put a biscuit in the basket.
Union returns to Messa Rink on Friday, January 29 at 7 p.m., against Cornell and again on Saturday, January 30 at 4 p.m., for Pink at the Rink against Colgate.
