2019-20 Season Preview: Elmira College Women’s Ice Hockey
ELMIRA, N.Y. — The No. 4 nationally-ranked Elmira College women’s ice hockey team reloaded and is ready to prove once again the Soaring Eagles are one of the nation’s premier programs in 2019-20. Winners of back-to-back United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Championships, the Soaring Eagles have their eyes on a third consecutive Pat Thompson Trophy and a lengthy run into the NCAA Tournament.
Earning a berth into an eighth-straight national tournament will present a significant challenge, as it always does. But this year’s squad will rely on a younger crop of skaters to do the heavy lifting. EC graduated six members from the Class of 2019, all of whom played vital roles on both sides of the puck. That includes a Laura Hurd Award finalist, three All-America selections, three 100-point scorers, the forward who scored an improbable hat trick in the 2017-18 semifinal comeback against Plattsburgh State, and a plethora of All-Conference honorees.
Meanwhile, the Class of 2020 features only two seniors, but fourth-year head coach Tim Crowley doesn’t believe that will be an issue when the team takes the ice.
