ELMIRA, N.Y. — After opening the 2017-18 campaign with a three-goal road victory over Oswego State, the Elmira College women’s ice hockey team moved up one spot to No. 3 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) national poll. The Soaring Eagles are also ranked fifth in this afternoon’s edition of the D3hockey.com national poll.
Elmira was tied for fourth in the country in last week’s poll, but its 4-1 win over the Lakers and a 3-2 loss by former No. 2-ranked Adrian helped the Soaring Eagles climb the national poll. Plattsburgh State remained atop the national rankings by collecting all 15 first-place votes, while Norwich jumped one spot to No. 2.
Following the Soaring Eagles is Adrian, who dropped two spots to No. 4, followed by fifth-ranked Wisconsin-River Falls. The Falcons were tied with Elmira for the fourth spot in last week’s poll. The remaining five teams in the national top-10 remained the same: Middlebury, Gustavus Adolphus, St. Thomas, Amherst and Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Once again, Elmira is the only United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) affiliate to own a national ranking.
The No. 3/5-ranked Soaring Eagles return to the ice this Saturday, November 11, for their UCHC-opener against first-year program King’s (Pa.). The opening faceoff is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston, Pennsylvania.
